13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
My dear departed Mother used to often say, “Dear God, Give me strength.” That in a time much different than ours. We lived in ratty (literally) old farm houses that were heated by coal or wood. Had no running water or electricity. The outhouse was smelly in the summer and drafty in the winter. . She hung wet clothes on the clothesline in the dead of winter and bathed us kids in a galvanized tub behind the kitchen range. In spite of all this, she managed to keep a smile on her face. What an example of strength in truly difficult circumstances. Which leads me to my prayer for this day:
Dear God – Grant me the strength this day to cope with my difficulties. When I consider the problems other people have had and how they came through those, I desire the strength to do the same. My petition today is that you fill me with the Holy Spirit to help me cope with my problems in the same way our Mothers did. When things get really tough, help me to say, “Dear God, Give me the strength.” In Jesus Name. Amen
