Psalm 51:1-4; 10-12
1 Have mercy on me, O God,
because of your unfailing love.
Because of your great compassion,
blot out the stain of my sins.
2 Wash me clean from my guilt.
Purify me from my sin.
3 For I recognize my rebellion;
it haunts me day and night.
4 Against you, and you alone, have I sinned;
I have done what is evil in your sight.
You will be proved right in what you say,
and your judgment against me is just.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God.
Renew a loyal spirit within me.
11 Do not banish me from your presence,
and don’t take your Holy Spirit[a] from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and make me willing to obey you.
God knows your sin, wounds, and scars, and He loves you still, so much that he sent Jesus to die as our perfect atoning sacrifice. Even the faithful and faith-filled King David, a man after God’s own heart, messed up royally and then tried to cover his sin… with murder. Not a great plan.
All God desires from you to forgive your sins, and ease the pain of the wounds and scars you are carrying in your heart, is to be honest with Him, humble yourself and tell God what He already knows, He just wants you to put it into words and confess it to Him so He can forgive you and begin the healing process.
Start with…”God, I messed up, and I’m so tired of carrying this around in my heart; and I hate the separation it has caused between you and I. Father, forgive me for (tell God the sin that you’ve been carrying). Thank you Father for forgiving me and setting me free from this guilt and pain…”
